Be Content!

Hey lovies! I hope you’re all good. I hope the weekend was fulfilling and great for all of you. I had a lovely weekend full of happiness and laughter. These type of weekends really make you look at life very differently. You see the joy on the faces of your loved ones and you give praise to God because you feel so blessed.

Anyways, today I wanted to speak about learning to be content with your life. Ya’ll already know that the Bible is my reference for everything – it’s high-key the secret to living a fulfilling life. YOU JUST NEED TO READ IT! Prayer + The Word = Fire combination.

This topic actually stems from a prayer I have been making since the beginning of the year: that God helps me to be satisfied with the plans He has for me, and the pace in which my life is going. And for me to not question everything, but to trust Him. This year I’m turning 25 and I was actually having a quarter life crisis. It was really affecting me because I felt like I had not achieved enough. God has been telling me to chill by assuring me that everything happens at the perfect time. I’ve reached a level of contentment and peace and my outlook on life has changed significantly.

I’ve realized that my generation lives in a constant state of discontentment. We’re always complaining and aren’t satisfied with our lives. Whether it’s what we have, our jobs, our weight, our clothes, our partners; there’s always something worrying or stressing us. This then leads to us being constantly unhappy with our lives. We focus our energies on how bad our lives are, instead of using that period of obscurity to build ourselves up, with what we have and to ENJOY the time we’re given. I’m guilty of all of this. We always think there’s better – which there may be, but sometimes you’re just not ready to receive it yet, and God is still grooming you and molding you to be at the point when you can receive it.

Take note of these points:

  1. SEEK GOD. “If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment” – Job 36:11
  2. Know that God has a plan and purpose for your life.  (Jeremiah 29:11) WAIT ON HIM. You’ll get exactly what you want and need, when the time is right. Don’t rush to seek happiness and fulfillment from items or people. Just be happy and at peace with where you’re currently at and what you have, and work towards the place you want to be.
  3. Know that everything happens at the time God wants it to happen.
  4. Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Don’t go out your way to be someone you’re not. God uniquely made you – why would you want to be someone else?
  5. Referring to the point above, don’t envy people who have made it. You’ll make yourself ill, just stay in your lane. “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” – Proverbs 14:30
  6. Don’t let anything worry you or cause you pain. You aren’t going to be young very long. This is actually a Bible verse! – Ecclesiastes 11:10
  7. Ecclesiastes 7:29 says “God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated.” STOP COMPLICATING YOUR LIFE!
  8. “Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it.” This is also a Bible verse – Ecclesiastes 5: 18-20
  9. It’s great to dream big and to chase your desires, BUT don’t despise the process. Live every single day like it’s your last.
  10. Work with what you currently have/ Make the Most of What God Gives. Make the most of the skills and tools God has blessed you with to elevate yourself. Remember David from the Bible? He killed Goliath with a sling and a stone – what he knew and what he had at that time. He had perfected his sling and stone combination by practicing! He killed a lion and a bear before Goliath using the same method. Did he ask for a sword or a gun? Nope. He made the most of what he had in his hands, and what he already knew. Take note of that.

1 Timothy 6:6-12

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
